Webinar: Building Better Comics Collections: A Buyers’ Guide for Libraries

Webinar: Building Better Comics Collections: A Buyers’ Guide for Libraries
12 November 2026 10:00 - 11:00

Comics, graphic novels and manga are among the fastest-growing and most in-demand areas of library collections, attracting enthusiastic readers across all ages. They can also play a powerful role in making reading more inclusive — providing different routes into stories for reluctant readers, neurodivergent and dyslexic readers, English-language learners and those who simply prefer visual storytelling.

But as demand grows, so do the challenges for librarians. What should you buy? How do you navigate manga and long-running series? How can you judge age suitability, build a balanced collection and make limited budgets work harder?

Drawing on new research with UK public libraries and the forthcoming Comics & Graphic Novels Buyers’ Guide, this practical webinar will explore what readers are borrowing, where demand is growing and how libraries can respond. We’ll share practical advice on selecting and managing stock, understanding different formats and audiences, improving discoverability and creating diverse, inclusive collections that attract new readers to the library and keep existing readers engaged.

Please note that this webinar will be recorded. If you cannot make the session but would like the link to the recording, please still register.
