Webinar: Understanding the Budget
1 December 2025 13:00 - 14:00

Following the Government’s budget announcement on Wednesday 26th November, we are hosting a Budget Briefing Webinar to share key headlines, discuss implications for our sector, and gather your feedback.

📅 Date: Monday 1st December
🕐 Time: 1:00–2:00pm
📍 Location: Online, Microsoft Teams

We’re pleased to confirm that a representative from the Local Government Association (LGA) will join us to provide a summary of the budget’s impact on local government and cultural services.

This session will be an opportunity to:

  • Hear a concise overview of the budget’s key points
  • Reflect on potential implications for libraries
  • Share your local perspectives and priorities

Each year, the UK government presents its Budget—a financial statement delivered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Rachel Reeves) to Parliament—outlining the nation's economic outlook and the government's plans for taxation and public spending. The Budget is a cornerstone of fiscal policy, shaping everything from income tax thresholds to investment in public services. While the Chancellor’s speech often focuses on taxation and macroeconomic indicators like employment and inflation, the detailed spending plans are scrutinised through parliamentary committees and enacted via the Finance Bill.

This year’s Autumn Budget, is scheduled for Wednesday, 26 November.

For local government and public sector organisations, understanding the Budget’s implications is critical. Changes to council tax, stamp duty, and pension tax relief are all under consideration, and these could have ripple effects on local budgets, service delivery, and community outcomes.

This webinar will provide a post-Budget briefing tailored to the library sector, summarising key announcements, exploring their potential impact, and offering space for feedback and discussion.
