Libraries Connected responds to Spending Review
Libraries Connected, the membership organisation for public library services, has responded to the 2025 Spending Review.
Isobel Hunter MBE, chief executive of Libraries Connected, said:
"The Spending Review contains some exciting opportunities for libraries, particularly the National Youth Strategy and increased funding for the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods, where libraries can have a huge impact on local communities. It was very encouraging that the Chancellor acknowledged libraries in her speech to parliament, and we look forward to working with the government on these programmes over the coming months. We were disappointed not to see any new digital inclusion funding but we're hopeful that libraries will play a key role in the Digital Inclusion Action Plan."
"The additional investment in local government is welcome but councils will remain under severe financial pressure, and we know that libraries are particularly vulnerable to cuts. We need more clarity on how the government will achieve a sustainable, long-term financial model for councils that protects frontline care services while supporting vital social infrastructure such as libraries."
