Libraries Connected welcomes government announcement of youth hubs

Isobel Hunter, Chief Executive of Libraries Connected today welcomes the government's new announcement on the future of youth hubs.

Libraries Connected has been working locally and regionally across England and Wales to better link Department of Work and Pension services with libraries. Salford Libraries and Salford Jobcentres is a great example of partnership. Salford Libraries regularly provide their schedules to local jobcentres, ensuring jobseekers are kept up to date with job clubs, skills workshops, personal development activities and community support services, with some services hosted by libraries. Partnership Managers and Employment Advisers from the Jobcentre have also delivered myth-busting sessions for library staff on Universal Credit.

Isobel Hunter said:

"It's great that libraries have been chosen as a key partner for the expansion of youth hubs. It is an opportunity to give young people the support and skills they need to get on, in a place they trust.  As we celebrate 175 years of public libraries, empowering people to gain skills and knowledge to find employment and develop their careers has always been at the heart of the work that we do."
