Libraries Connected welcomes new Director to "grow profile, impact and influence"

Libraries Connected, the membership body for public library services, welcomes Emma Hoddinott as its new Director of Policy, External Affairs and Research (PEAR), starting in September.

Emma is joining Libraries Connected from the Co-operative Party, where she was Assistant General Secretary for Representation & Political Affairs for nearly 10 years, overseeing their most successful General Election in the organisation's history and playing a key role in promoting co-operative values across the UK.

Emma also brings a wealth of experience in local government, having served 12 years as a local Councillor, and seven years as an officer at a local authority.

In this newly created role, Emma will lead political engagement for Libraries Connected, forging and developing relationships with national, regional and local decision-makers. She will also oversee media relations, campaigns and research.

Emma’s appointment signals a new strategic focus on policy and public affairs for Libraries Connected, as the library sector seeks to strengthen its role in advancing government priorities around health, digital inclusion, community cohesion and economic growth.

Emma Hoddinott said:

"It’s a privilege to join Libraries Connected at such a pivotal time for the library sector. In my personal and professional life, I’ve seen first-hand the incredible value of libraries and their vital role in communities. I’m looking forward to working with local libraries to make sure everyone knows about their potential."

Isobel Hunter MBE, chief executive of Libraries Connected, said:

"We’re delighted to welcome Emma as our new Director of Policy, External Affairs and Research. Emma ‘s extensive expertise will help grow our profile, impact and influence - putting public libraries firmly on the political and public agenda."
