Libraries Connected welcomes plans for National Year of Reading 2026

Libraries Connected is pleased to support plans for a National Year of Reading in 2026.

The National Year of Reading 2026 is a campaign delivered by the National Literacy Trust and the Department for Education that brings together partners including libraries. Recognising the crucial role of reading in boosting individual wellbeing and connecting diverse communities, the campaign aims to inspire community reading champions and build a culture where ‘reading is for everyone, everywhere’. In recognition of our support and involvement, our Chief Executive Isobel Hunter MBE and Programme Manager Sarah Mears recently attended the launch of the campaign at 10 Downing Street.

The campaign has already attracted significant support from major organisations including Premier League, Julia Rausing Trust, Arts Council England, the Very Group, and all major publishers.

As sites where reading and literacy are championed on a daily basis, public libraries are crucial to the campaign’s aims. Libraries Connected, alongside the UK’s Library and Information Association (CILIP) and the Association of Senior Children’s and Education Librarians (ASCEL), will actively partner with The Reading Agency in supporting the campaign alongside libraries, and plans will be announced soon.
