Libraries Connected welcomes £27.5m for Libraries Improvement Fund

Libraries Connected has welcomed culture secretary Lisa Nandy's announcement of £27.5m for the Libraries Improvement Fund, part of a £1.5bn package of cultural investment.

Isobel Hunter MBE, chief executive of Libraries Connected, said:

“Thanks to this latest round of Libraries Improvement Fund investment, library services across the country will be able to refresh and reshape their spaces to meet the changing needs of their communities. The funding will help library services modernise their buildings, boost digital access and create more accessible venues for learning, creativity and connection.”

“It’s particularly encouraging to see libraries recognised for their role in bringing communities together, reinvigorating neighbourhoods and strengthening local pride. We’re excited to see which new libraries will join the list of transformative LIF projects.”

"It’s fitting that this funding for libraries is part of a wider package of cultural investment, alongside museums and galleries. Even in areas with lower levels of cultural activity, libraries deliver first class creative experiences for their communities - day in, day out. They bring arts and culture to people who might not otherwise access them, and give other cultural organisations a trusted platform to reach local communities."

“To build on this momentum, stable and predictable funding for local government is essential so libraries can continue to adapt and respond to the evolving priorities of their users.”
