About the festival

The Big Book Weekend was a three-day virtual book festival that brought together the best of the cancelled British literary festivals, with a range of events ‘sponsored’ by the relevant festival, featuring the authors and other artists who would have appeared.

It was co-founded by the authors Kit de Waal and Molly Flatt, supported by the BBC and Arts Council England, and was hosted by startup MyVLF, which offered an immersive 2D experience designed to emulate the feeling of being part of a real-life festival.

The festival featured interviews, panel discussions, ‘in conversation’ debates, performances and interactive sessions from the biggest names in books, alongside unknown debut authors and rising talents.

The festival aimed to encourage people and families of all backgrounds to come together around books, talk more about books and read more books.
