Recruiting in a competitive environment webinar

Wednesday, 13 April, 2022 - 15:30 to 16:30

The latest figures from the Office of National Statistics show that the country is facing a recruitment crisis. Vacancies surged to a record high in February 2022, and employees in every sector are finding it hard to attract the talent they need. As the cost of living rises, some recruiters are predicting that retention will become harder as employees may be more likely to move on in search of higher wages.

Many libraries are now trying to recruit to fill vacancies they have been holding during the pandemic and are reporting that they have struggled to attract the quantity and quality of candidates for front line and for specialist roles.

Some libraries feel constrained by their corporate HR processes, to use job descriptions that don’t reflect the nature of library work and unable to advertise.

However, the crisis could also be an opportunity to recruit in a different way to attract new and more diverse talent from different places.

At this webinar we will hear from Manchester and Kirklees Libraries on how they have bucked the trend and launched innovative recruitment processes to attract high calibre and more diverse staff.
